Nick Hayward – Owner & Arborist

Nick Hayward is the founder and lead arborist of DH Tree Service, bringing a passion for trees, a deep understanding of forestry, and a commitment to high-quality, honest work. Originally from New England, Nick spent his summers exploring the mountains and forests of the West before making the permanent move after earning his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from The University of Vermont.

Initially drawn to consulting forestry, Nick’s career path shifted after spending a summer working on a tree service crew in Stowe, Vermont. The physical challenge, problem-solving, and direct impact of tree care sparked an obsession with arboriculture that led him to pursue it full-time. After three years working for a larger tree service, he saw firsthand how corporate inefficiencies and a lack of direct communication could dilute the customer experience. Wanting to create a company that prioritized personalized service, transparency, and quality craftsmanship, he founded DH Tree Service in 2021.

Nick believes that tree care is more than just a service—it’s a relationship between people, trees, and the land. He takes the time to educate clients on best practices, explaining why certain decisions benefit tree health while avoiding unnecessary work. By combining his extensive forestry knowledge, technical expertise, and hands-on experience, he ensures that every job is done with precision, safety, and integrity.

When he’s not climbing trees or shaping landscapes, Nick can be found backcountry skiing, mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and trail running, embracing the same love for the outdoors that led him to this profession.
